El Chapo is a Spanish crime series which follows the life of Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán - a Mexican drug lord and the former leader of the Sinaloa Cartel.

The series premiered on April 23, 2017 and stars Marco de la O as the titular character, who was believed to be the most powerful drug lord in the world.

The series focuses on the beginnings of Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán in 1985, when he was a low-level member of the Guadalajara Cartel.

The three series walk viewers through his rise to power as head of the Sinaloa Cartel, and his downfall.

The third season came out in July 2018.

Fans have taken to Reddit to discuss how the El Chapo series fits in with Narcos and Narcos: Mexico, which feature the aforementioned character.

In the second season of Narcos: Mexico, Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán is just finding his feet, and he is played by Alejandro Edda.

Benmitchell92 said on Reddit: "Should I wait for the next season of Narcos or just watch El Chapo?

"I like being fully immersed into the characters, and I don't want to watch El Chapo and grow attached to the Joaquin Guzmán they portray when I already have that with the one Alejandro Edda plays.

"But I don't know how long I'll have to wait before Narcos Mexico season three comes out.Plus the reviews of El Chapo aren't too thrilling, so I'd rather not bore myself watching that just to be told the same story in Narcos."

Fans have said El Chapo starts where Narcos: Mexico season two ends, as it includes details about his life post-Guadalajara Cartel.

Rafacaro_1 said: "I would watch it, it starts off where Narcos: Mexico 2 finishes off.

"I thought season one and two were good, season two being better. Season three slowed down but still good. I found it more accurate.

"The actor who plays Chapo I think resembles the real one more. I would watch it in Spanish with English [subtitles].

"With the whole coronavirus thing, and it starting to go hard in Mexico. You're probably looking until 2022 for Narcos: Mexico 3."

He said: "I believe we see Joaquín Guzmán showing ambition in season two. I believe it comes from his own childhood and wanting to be that man, that provider.

"He had the ambition to be a boss; he had ideas. You hear him telling his mother in that one scene, 'they don’t listen to me' and 'they don’t respect my ideas.'

"But he knows that he has these ideas and can take them far, and that’s what history entails.

"Now to get a seat on that table, it means a lot. The journey that Chapo had, it’s quite cinematic, to tell you the truth."
